Weekend Recap

I can't believe it's already Monday again!! The weeks are flying by, and the weekends are going even faster! This past one was super busy and tiring, but it was all really good stuff.

Friday night we went to OKC to get some running supplies and a baby gift for a shower I went to on Saturday. I have mentioned in several posts that I've been having really bad knee and leg pain during my runs. It has come to the point where I worry myself silly about our long runs, and I've been even thinking lately that I may have to quit running. Well, a few days ago we were out running, and it suddenly clicked in my head...the pain had to be coming from my shoes or insoles. I trained for an entire half marathon last year and experienced no leg pain whatsoever (aside from the expected pain of running long distances.) Then, right when we started training for our full marathon this past January, I bought new shoes and new insoles. The insoles have never felt very comfortable, but the people at the running store raved about how great they are so I figured they had to be good. Wrong! I decided to take them back and exchange them for insoles that strictly provide cushion. They exchanged them for me with no problem.

So, Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and started running around 6:15am. Let me tell you...it was the best run we've ever had! We were able to keep around a 9 - 9:45 pace throughout the entire 18 miles...and we kept our every mile and a half water breaks under 1 minute long. We finished the entire run in 3 hours and 17 minutes. The weather was glorious despite a few spurts of rain, and my leg pain was non existent aside from the expected numbness and pain that set in around mile 16.5. I really needed a great run so badly, and I am still so thankful!

I definitely felt it for the rest of the day. I rushed home from the run, showered and got ready just in time to rush to the city. I had plans to hang out with a friend of mine, Elyse, before the baby shower. It was so fun to catch up and spend time with her. We live an hour apart so we don't get to see each other super often. I really miss her.

The shower was really great too. My friend Emily is due in about 8 weeks with her first baby, and I'm so excited. She and her husband are actually due to arrive here any minute. They're staying with us tonight, and J and I are really looking forward to hanging out with them!!

I didn't get home from the shower and all until about 6pm Saturday night...and I was so exhausted!! All I wanted to do was lay on the couch, and that's exactly what I did for the rest of the night. J and I were asked to speak to our Sunday school class about our year in Thailand, so we spent some time preparing what we wanted to say, as well as a picture slideshow to go along with it.

It was really nice to get to talk about Thailand. That was the first time for us to talk to a group of people about our experience, and it felt really good. I love sharing stories from our time there. Sunday afternoon I took a nap, and then J and I cleaned the apartment. It had become quite the disaster over the weekend, so it took awhile just to pick up. Then we spent another hour or so deep cleaning everything. There is nothing like the feeling I have when our whole place is clean and smelling good!

Tomorrow I'm going to try and post some pictures of a project I did on my sewing machine. I made a tag blanket and some pacifier clips for Emily's baby Kate, and I thought I'd share it with you. I completely forgot to take any pictures of the finished project though, so I'll try to take a couple if she brings it with her today!

It took me quite some time to catch up on all my reading from the weekend, but I loved every bit of it! Happy Monday to everyone!

Oh my gosh, if I ran 18 miles I would literally have a heart attack. I can barely get around my block, and I'm not even lying ;) I'm going to go with.... it's my shoes that can't get me around the block!

I am so glad that you found what the problem was concerning your knee and leg pain. It would have been terrible to give up your running when you are doing so well! Thank goodness it was just your shoes!

That is so fun that you got to catch up with your friends this weekend!

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Hooray! So glad that you found out what was bothering your knees. I had to get some new shoes in Feb because mine were bothering me as well. I hate spending the money, but I know it is a necessity if you want to exercise safely.

That is really cool about your talk. I'm glad it went well. I can't wait to see the pictures of the craft project! I always make attempts at being crafty, but I don't think I have it in me. :)
