we've got roomates...

Before I get to that, though, I have to say that I stumbled upon Angela's website, Oh She Glows, via Healthy Ashley's blog...and I am ever so glad that I did! Her blog has really been an encouragement and inspiration to me since I found it. AND...it's saving me money. I copied her idea of making homemade hummus and homemade almond butter - two things I love, but that are so expensive! They both turned out really well after a couple of "not so pretty" altercations with my blender. I could seriously live on these two items alone, and now I don't have to feel guilty about it! I'm just really thankful that I found her, and if you haven't checked her out yet...do it asap! Also, make sure you give her green monster recipe a whirl...I absolutely love the ones I've made...and it's a great way to get in extra fruit and veggies each day.

Running, running, running. This week has gone relatively well. Last Saturday we completed 15 miles - the longest run we've ever done! I was really pleased with how the run went overall, despite the bitter cold temps and wind. I felt that I finished steady and strong, and I didn't really hit a wall until about mile 14.5. Can't beat that! We're looking forward to 16 this weekend. The marathon just seems to be coming up so fast, and I'm so excited to get out there and do it. It's funny, though, how 15 miles can go really well, but this morning our 5am, 4 mile run turned into a 5am, 2 mile walk with Olive. I was just not feeling it at all, and my knee was really bothering me. O'well...I guess you always have to push through the bad to get to the good stuff!

For some reason this morning I sunk into a not so good mood soon after waking up. I think a number of things figured in, but primarily the fact that as of two days ago ants have taken up residence on our kitchen counter. Yes...ANTS!

Now, when we lived in Thailand we had a major ant problem. Really, the whole country has a major ant problem. They are everywhere! And you can't get rid of them. So, you end up just learning to live with them. So, J was taken aback this morning when I was so upset about these ants. I tried to explain to him that when we lived in Thailand I just accepted the ants. I just accepted a lot of things there as just a part of life. But, in America, ants are not just a part of life. They don't belong here. When we lived there, we had these special cabinets to keep ants out of our food. Each leg of the cabinet was placed in a small bowl of water so that the ants couldn't climb the legs. One morning I remember walking into our kitchen, and there was an electrical cord that went from the ceiling to the floor, and it just happened to be resting on the edge of our ant cabinet. There was a happy little trail of ants marching straight down that cord, onto our cabinet, and into all of our food. We had to empty out the entire thing, clean it inside and out, and throw away a lot of our food.

The ant cabinet is on the right behind J. You can see the little cups of water on the floor. To the left is our sink. I'm not sure what everyone is looking at here.

I think my point is that I while I expected to find the little creatures at every turn in SE Asia, I didn't expect to find them on my kitchen cabinets this morning. I do hate that I let such a minor thing get me all worked up this morning. I've gotta decide whether to call the apt. office and have them do something about it, or just go get some insect killer myself...and I've gotta decide quick!

On another note...I absolutely postively adore my husband to no end! I could list a million reasons why, but I think I'll just leave it at that.

So sorry to hear about your current ant problem!! I think that would make any of us sink into a not so good mood!

And whatever you decide to do, may the ants be gone quickly and may your food be saved!!!

We had a mini ant problem last year and this time, as well as fruit flies that did not EVER want to leave no matter what we did. Good luck!!

Ohh, btw ... try using cinnamon if you're having problems. We used it and it actually worked. Just sprinkle it on the edges of your counter tops, in your cubboards, etc where they would make their trail. Hope this helps!

If you decide to do something yourself try Terro ant bait. They are small trays that are filled with poison the ants love. You let them go in and out for about a week and they take the poison back to the nest and kill the whole nest. They rock.
